Erik Sloane is Head of Business Development for Funds at NEO, Canada’s new stock exchange and fund distribution platform. Erik is responsible for all investment product listings on the NEO Exchange, in addition to the mutual fund & OM fund distribution business on NEO Connect.

Erik has been with NEO since its inception in 2013, working to turn its vision to do the right thing for the Canadian capital markets into a reality. Prior to his current role, Erik was Head of Product Management, leading the delivery team in defining and implementing NEO’s overall stock exchange and fund distribution platforms. Erik also chaired several industry advisory groups instrumental in guiding NEO’s approach to meeting the needs of all capital markets participants. He also sits on the Canadian ETF Association (CETFA) Operations Committee.

Before NEO, Erik was with the Alpha Exchange, involved in various capacities across all aspects of the business prior to its acquisition by TMX Group. Erik also spent time at Capco, a global business and technology consultancy. Erik has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics from Queen’s University.

Kevin is the Head of BMO Global Asset Management Canada, Global Head of ETFs and Chief Investment Officer. Kevin is a key asset to the team with over 18 years of progressive investment industry experience, including global passive and active strategies. Prior to joining BMO GAM, he served as Principal, Portfolio Manager at Barclays Global Investors Canada where he played an integral role in overseeing the management of Exchange Traded Funds and Institutional mandates. Kevin also worked as an index arbitrage trader with Scotia Capital. Kevin continues to be an active participant in the financial services industry, serving as a member of the Standard & Poor's Advisory Panel, and the Dow Jones Global Index Committee. Kevin studied Economics, Finance and Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. Kevin was named one of IIAC's Top 40 Under 40 in 2015 and is currently the Chairman of Canadian ETF Association.

Shary is a member of RBC’s Global Equity Trading team based in Toronto. In his current role, Shary manages teams across Electronic Trading, AI-driven Algorithmic Trading, and Central Risk Book trading. He joined RBC Capital Markets in 2009 through the rotational program where he had the opportunity to work with both Investment Banking and Equities Sales Trading.

Prior to RBC, Shary founded Sharysoft Solutions Group Inc., a software consulting firm focused on distributed computing. Shary holds a B.Sc. in Software Engineering (Distinction) from the University of Victoria and an MBA from the University of Calgary. He is currently finishing up a Master in Predictive Analytics and Data Science at Northwestern University. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designations.

Patrick is Managing Director of NBF’s Electronic Trading & Services, offering DEA and algorithmic trading as well as ETF, equity derivatives, and Portfolio Trading to institutional clients. He has over 20 years of trading experience. 

Prior to NBF, he was with ITG Canada as a Director in their electronic brokerage group and headed up their Commission Management Services. He spent his formative years in Montreal at boutique global investment dealer Pavilion Global Markets where, as the Head of North American Equity Trading, he was instrumental in developing their portfolio trading capabilities in both Canada and the U.S. 

He has been actively involved in shaping the Canadian regulatory environment through regular participation in industry comment letters and contributions to advisory committees like MSAC, MRAC, and the CSTA’s Trading Issues Committee. He is a sitting member of NBF’s Liquidity Review Committee, which is mandated to ensure that NBF duly meets its Best Execution obligations. 

Patrick is a CFA and went to most of his classes at the University of Western Ontario.

Alex has a broad range of experience in Canada’s capital markets over the past two decades in various roles including mid-office, technology, sales & trading. 

Prior to joining IIROC, Alex worked at CIBC for seven years heading the cash equities trading supervision group and also represented the firm in numerous industry committees and working groups. 

Prior to CIBC, Alex worked at TMX developing regulatory technology solutions for both regulators and dealers before moving to the TMX business team responsible for developing the firm’s equity trading business as Canada’s ATS rules evolved.

Prior to joining ITG, Dave held senior roles at leading independent Canadian brokerage firms across Canada. Previous roles include head of trading at two major independent brokerage firms as well as co-founder, PM and CEO at a Calgary-based, energy-focused private equity firm. Dave has been recognized as a Brendan Woods Top Gun trader on three occasions over his career.

Prior to this role, Dani worked with the TSX Listing group, where he developed investment fund listing requirements and introduced new automated filing procedures for ETF providers. He is also a member of several committees with the Canadian ETF Association. Camilla's career spans more than two decades in capital markets, most recently as Scotiabank’s Global Head of Foreign Exchange, responsible for the firm’s FX trading desks, electronic trading and distribution, sales teams, and the global strategy. Prior to this role, she was Scotiabank’s Chief FX Strategist, providing global macro commentary and advisory services across the firm’s client base. Earlier in her career, she was part of Portfolio Management at OMERS and Equity Research at BMO Capital Markets. Camilla holds a BA from Dalhousie University and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business. In addition, she is a CMT and CFA charterholder. She is an active member of the global investment community. She is a member of the CFA Society Toronto’s Board of Directors and was previously a member of the Bank of Canada’s Foreign Exchange Committee. In addition she sits on the 30% Club’s Steering Committee for Canada and is also a member of several committees within the United Way and CFA Society Toronto.

Tracy Castle-Newman is the COO for Global Institutional Equity Distribution and is a member of the Equity Operating Committee. In her role, she has specific responsibility for Client Strategy, Systematic Advisory Sales (SAS) Product Strategy, Commission Management , ETF Product Marketing, and the Equity and Fixed Income Division’s Institutional Client Joint Venture with MSWM.

Tracy joined Morgan Stanley in 1996 after spending her prior years at Bankers Trust and Bank of New York. She has held various roles while at Morgan Stanley, primarily focused on client strategy and business development. Tracy is involved in many of the talent initiatives of the Firm including recruiting and mentoring women. In 2007, Tracy was inducted into the YWCA Academy of Women Leaders in recognition of her contribution to women’s initiatives. In 2010, she co-founded the Morgan Stanley’s Women’s Business Alliance. In 2013, she founded Morgan Stanley’s Women’s Investment Roundtable which brings together women portfolio mangers for a 2 day stock picking roundtable. In 2017, Tracy was named to Worth Magazine’s Power 100 List.

She is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a BS in Finance. She serves on the Pamplin Advisory Council and the Executive Committee for the Finance Advisory Board for the Pamplin School of Business. Tracy lives in Westfield, NJ with her husband Andy and both are supporters and fans of Va. Tech athletics. Tracy recently combined her support of athletics and women into the first scholarship for the VT women’s golf team.

Maureen Jensen is the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), which administers and enforces securities law in the capital markets of the province of Ontario.

Prior to her appointment as Chair and CEO, Ms. Jensen was the Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer of the OSC from 2011 - 2016. As the senior member of staff, she was responsible for coordinating and managing the organization’s day-to-day operations, including its enforcement, market regulation and compliance functions. In addition, she provided leadership and direction on policy development and implementation, as well as strategic securities, regulatory and enforcement policy and program analysis. Ms. Jensen was also an executive sponsor of various regulatory policy initiatives.

Before joining the OSC, Ms. Jensen was Senior Vice-President, Surveillance and Compliance at the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) from 2008 - 2011, the national self-regulatory organization that oversees all investment dealers and trading activity on debt and equity marketplaces in Canada. At IIROC, she was responsible for all of its compliance and market surveillance functions, including market surveillance and prudential and business conduct regulation of all registered dealers and registrants.

Prior to the formation of IIROC in 2008, Ms. Jensen was President and CEO of Market Regulation Services Inc. (RS), the independent national market regulation services provider for Canadian equity markets. At RS, she was responsible for overseeing all of its corporate and regulatory functions and the development of strategic initiatives that promote market integrity. During her tenure, Ms. Jensen also held the positions of Vice President, Market Surveillance, and later Vice President, Market Regulation Eastern Region.

Ms. Jensen has also held senior positions in regulatory and business portfolios at the Toronto Stock Exchange and had a 20-year career in the mining business, holding both executive and technical management positions with several resource companies.

Ms. Jensen is a Registered Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) and holds the ICD.D designation.

Mike McGlone is a senior commodity strategist for Bloomberg Intelligence, a unique research platform that provides context on industries, companies, and government policy, available on the Bloomberg Professional service at BI <GO>. Mr. McGlone specializes in the broad investible commodity markets.

Mr. McGlone joined Bloomberg in 2016 with over 25 years of futures and commodity trading and investing experience, beginning at the Chicago Board of Trade. Prior to joining Bloomberg, he was a head of US research at ETF Securities. Prior to ETF Securities, Mr. McGlone headed the commodity business at S&P Indices. His previous roles included head of futures research at ABN Amro and VP research, analyst, trader, sales at Aubrey G. Lanston / IBJ Futures.

Mr. McGlone has an MBA from DePaul University in Chicago and bachelor’s of science and arts degrees from Illinois State University. He is a CFA Charter holder and has earned a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation.

Craig Hurl is Director, Listed Products Trading in the Capital Markets department at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board. As of August 2008, Mr. Hurl became Head of  Equity Trading, which is responsible for all agency equity trading within the Fund. Most recently, in September 2016, he also took on the additional responsibility of being  Head of Futures Trading.

Prior to his current role, he was Director, Enhanced Index and Income Trusts, where he managed the Canadian Enhanced Index portfolio, an Income Trust portfolio, along with other global enhanced index strategies.

Prior to joining Teachers’ in June 1997, he was Manager, Index Operations at the Toronto Stock Exchange, where he worked for 10 years.

Mr. Hurl graduated from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada with a Bachelor of Arts double major in Management Economics. Mr. Hurl is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder, and is a member of the Toronto CFA Society. SVI is a global leader in electronic market-making, employing over 2,700 staff in 39 countries. On any given day, the firm can trade upwards of US$3 billion on global stock markets.

Prior to SVI, Daniel was employed by and consulted for a privately-owned trading technology firm, where he was responsible for the product development of the firm’s trading system and negotiated market access agreements in NCSA, EMEA and Asia. He has operated two successful trading floors and early on in his career he worked as a day trader.

Educated in Canada, Daniel received an MBA from the John Molson School of Business, Goodman Institute of Investment Management at Concordia University, and a Bachelor in Commerce from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He is a CFA charter holder and passed the FINRA series 7 and 24 exams as well as CSI courses, CSC and PDO.

He served on the Building Osgoode campaign cabinet and is a past president and director of the Osgoode Hall Law School Alumni Association. Ms. Killian’s responsibilities include: analyzing the unique market structures of the equity markets; advancing and distributing CIBC's electronic offerings; expanding relationships with marketplaces, regulators, counterparties and clients; evaluating new technologies; and contributing to CIBC’s equity markets business strategy through in-depth analysis of the regulatory and market structure environment. Kevan Cowan is CEO of the Capital Markets Authority Implementation Organization (CMAIO).

A seasoned financial services industry executive with wide-ranging strategic, management, operational, regulatory and policy roles across multiple business lines, Mr. Cowan was with the TMX Group Inc. from 1997 to 2015, serving as President of TSX Markets and Group Head Equities from 2008 and President of the TSX Venture Exchange from 2007 until 2008. Mr. Cowan’s positions within the TMX Group included strategy and business development for the TSX Venture Exchange as well as responsibility for domestic and international growth of the TSX Venture Exchange and Toronto Stock Exchange. 

He has extensive experience in regulatory and policy matters, having been a key participant in numerous and ongoing regulatory and policy developments as capital markets and the securities industry underwent significant transformation over the last two decades. Prior to joining the TMX Group, Kevan was a partner at Smith Lyons LLP (now part of Gowling WLG), where he practiced corporate securities law. During that time, he led and executed a wide range of securities and corporate law transactions and served as corporate counsel to private and public corporations.

Mr. Cowan has served on many boards and in advisory roles, including the Toronto Financial Services Alliance (Past Chair of the Board), IIROC (director), the Calgary Economic Development Investment Advisory Committee, TMX Group affiliates, and the OSC Small Business Advisory Committee.

Richard Carleton has been CEO of the Canadian Securities Exchange for seven years. Prior to this appointment, Richard served as Vice-President Corporate Development with responsibility for the CSE’s technology, operations, market data and trading sales teams. Before joining the exchange, Richard worked as a business development consultant in Toronto and New York in the risk management and index product fields after spending twelve years with the Toronto Stock Exchange, serving most recently as a member of the exchange’s senior management team. Active in industry affairs, Richard served two terms as chair of the market data industry’s global trade association in the late 1990's and is a frequent panelist at market structure and trading technology events across North America. Richard also serves as a member of the boards of the Private Capital Markets Association and the Empire Club of Canada.

A member of the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1987, Richard is a graduate of the University of Ottawa (B.A. ’81) and the University of Toronto (LL.B. ’85). He has also completed the executive development programme at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

With a master’s degree in economics from Laval University, Clément Gignac has a wealth of experience spanning 30 years in both the private and public sectors and was until very recently a minister in the Quebec government.

Since December 12, 2012, Clément has been Senior Vice-President, Investments and Chief Economist at iA Financial Group. In addition to being the Group’s spokesperson on economic matters, he is also the chair of the asset allocation committee and responsible for managing the company's diversified funds, with assets exceeding $5 billion. 

Before joining iA Financial Group, Clément Gignac was a well known economist and strategist for major financial institutions, including National Bank Financial, where he was vice-president and chief economist from 2000 to 2008. During this time, he was recognized as one of the best economic strategists in the country and was frequently contacted by the media, business leaders and governments for his expertise. Thereafter, he began his career in politics.

Clément Gignac is a well regarded speaker and is often sought after by the media. In 2012, he was asked to chair the prestigious World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Competitiveness and in 2016, was asked to become a standing member of the Washington, D.C.-based Conference of Business Economists, a global group of distinguished economists.
